Solar Water Heating
Using your solar PV panels
Systems such as Eddi and SolarImmersion use a solar power diverter that helps you to make the most of your self generated power rather than exporting it back to the grid and you can make the most of the 100% green energy generated from your solar PV
Rather than exporting excess generation back to the grid as per a standard PV system, with an intelligent power diverter, that extra power generation is instead diverted back to your heating systems, thus heating water on 100% self generated green energy instead of using your gas to heat your hot water
Solar thermal panels
A solar water heating system (solar thermal panels) uses the natural heat from the sun to heat water for your home. Solar thermal technology is an increasingly popular renewable alternative to traditional water heating systems.
How does solar water heating work?
A solar water heating system uses solar thermal collectors, also known as solar thermal panels. These panels look a lot like solar PV panels and work in a similar way, i.e. they capture energy from the sun, but rather than converting the heat into electricity, solar thermal collectors use the energy to produce hot water.
Solar water heating systems use panels or tubes, called solar collectors, to gather solar energy. The solar collectors convert the infra-red portion of visible light into heat. They are filled with a mix of water and glycol. This fluid is pumped round a circuit, which passes through the hot wate cylinder via a coil like a traditional gas heated hot water system.
